Sylhet and Barishal, Bangladesh

Flood cover for small farmers and boat owners, paid when the river gauge says so.

We run parametric micro-insurance. When a river gauge passes a set level in a named district, each enrolled policy pays out the same amount without a claim form.

As the water rises

Enrol

A farmer or boat owner picks a district and pays the season premium.

Watch gauge

The public reading is compared with the trigger level each day.

Trigger

When the level is passed, the event is written to every policy in the district.

Pay out

Payments are made from the pool to each policy holder.

How a policy is built

Gauge triggers

Each district has one public water-level source, written into the policy at enrolment.

Fast payout

When a trigger is met, every affected policy is paid from one pooled account.

Premium pools

Premiums are shown per district with the balance and the payouts made so far.

Farmers ask before enrolling

Do I need photos to claim?

No. The payout depends on the gauge reading, not on a photo of your field.

Who runs the gauge?

A public water agency. We store the reading they publish.

What if the gauge is down?

The trigger uses the next published reading, and the rule is written in the policy.
